Barkot is situated at an elevation of 1,220 meters which is above the sea level and Barkot is also one of the most famous destinations for tourists in the district of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand which is located at the Himalayan high range. The locale is a piece of Garhwal division. The Barkot city is encompassed on the north by the Dehradun region, on the upper east by Tibet, on the east by Chamoli, on the southeast by the Rudraprayag region and on the south by Tehri Garhwal region.

Barkot also receives water from famous holy rivers and those are Ganga and Yamuna. Yamunotri Dham is about 50 KM away from Barkot and most of the tourists also stay here. One can also get the best view of peaks of Banderpoonch and it is the best place for nature lovers due to the Himalayas.

• Yamunotri Temple: This temple comes under the Char Dham circuit and thousands of people visit this temple in the month of April to October. This temple was created in the devotee of Goddess Yamuna. This temple was created by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal and holds the religious place for Hindu and also the source of Yamuna river which is one of the major rivers in India. This temple is situated at 3,235mts which is above the sea level and you have to do a trek of 13 KM.
• Surya Kund: There are numerous common warm springs in Yamunotri of which Surya Kund is famous. The water of Surya Kund has an amazing temperature of 1900F. Travelers attach potatoes and rice to cook it by submerging it submerged of Surya Kund. In the wake of cooking it is filled in as ‘prasad‘.
• Hanuman Chatti: Through this place, you will reach to two popular destinations those are Yamunotri and Dodi Tal. From Hanuman, Chatti Yamunotri is situated at 13 Km and you can cover this distance through trekking or by ponies. The jeep is also available for Janki Chatti for 6 Km.

Activities you can do in Barkot

There are not many things to do in Barkot. This place is just for relaxing and taking a break from your daily routine and get some different atmosphere. But, still, you can do some activities there.

• Shopping: You can do shopping here of local handicrafts which are shawls, religious painting. You can also buy Woolen Garments.
• Trekking: If you want to add some adventure in your life or you love doing trekking then this place is best for it.
• Adventure sport: You can do various activities of sports like Rock-climbing, mountain climbing.
